La organización social, la economía o incluso las creencias de los antiguos canarios no permanecieron inalteradas durante los 1300 años que habitaron la isla. La arqueología ha identificado cambios en la manera de explotar y de habitar el territorio.
Los asentamientos más antiguos se localizan en áreas retiradas de la costa, rodeados de tierras óptimas para la práctica agrícola y, muy especialmente, pastoril. Se trata de poblados y necrópolis en cuevas. De estas últimas proceden las momias de El Museo Canario.
The social organization, the economy or even the beliefs of the aboriginal population of Gran Canaria, the Canaries, did not remain unchanged during the 1,300 years that they inhabited the island. Archeology has identified changes in the way of exploiting and inhabiting the territory.
The oldest settlements are located in remote areas of the coast, surrounded by optimal land for agricultural practice and, very especially, pastoral. These are villages and necropolises in caves. The mummies of El Museo Canario come from the latter.
