The European knowledge of the islands in the fourteenth century led to a process of conquest that ended with the incorporation of these lands to the crown of Castile in the fifteenth century. It was a period of war, death, famine and slavery. The ways of life of the native population were diluted in the midst of a new regime completely alien to the world they had known.
