Part and document of the month 2015

The program LA PART DEL MONTH of 2015 will offer a selection of 6 archaeological pieces that meet under the same idea, publicize some of the archaeological materials that are part of the temporary exhibition "A place to live", and 6 documentary pieces that will have as a common thread the presence of literature in the different sections and collections of the Documentation Center.

 

Archaeological fund: "A place to live"

The opening in The Canary Museum of the temporary exhibition "A place to live" serves as a guide for the selection of the 6 archaeological pieces that this year will be part of the "program the piece of the month". The exhibition, which can be visited until May 31, 2015, has as its central theme the villages of the ancient canaries, that is to approach the ways of life of these human groups from the spaces where they developed much of their daily activities and in which a wide repertoire of archaeological materials has been recovered. The pieces we have chosen come from archaeological interventions made on the island of Gran Canaria in recent decades in domestic contexts: houses, kitchens, spaces for the elaboration of ceramics, for storage… and through them will reflect on the new results that archaeological research has brought to the knowledge of this society.

Documentary background: A literary archive

The Documentation Center of the Scientific Society The Canary Museum has, being part of its different sections and collections, a rich and interesting volume of literary documents or directly or indirectly related to Canarian literature. Thus, in addition to the copies corresponding to various editions of the titles that shape our library, we also keep in the Archive and the Hemeroteca a set of manuscripts, newspapers and magazines in which this topic is addressed. In this way throughout 2015 we will investigate in Canarian literature using these documentary vestiges. Through the letter we will approach the creative process of Benito Pérez Galdós; through the press we will know other modes of literary editing; we will use the inquisitorial archive to approach the world of reading and the prohibition of books; and, finally, we will share literary texts by different Canarian authors whose writings – already in the form of an original copy – have gone down in history as part of many other documentary collections.
