On Tuesday, June 18, at 11:00 h., the hall of The Canary Museum received the media to present the results of the global archaeological research project on the Caldera de Tirajana, carried out by the company Tibicena. Archaeology and Heritage, S.L., with the participation of El Museo Canario. This project, associated with the Centro-Museo de La Fortaleza, has allowed to recover much of the Aboriginal history of the Caldera de Tirajana.
The media were attended by Isaac Castellano, Director of Tourism, Culture and Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands, together with Miguel Angel Clavijo, General Director of Cultural Heritage; Santiago Rodríguez, mayor of Santa Lucia de Tirajana; Teresa Delgado, curator of The Canary Museum; and Marco Antonio Moreno, managing archaeologist of Tibicena.
The Caldera of Tirajana has been revealed as exceptional, both for the state of conservation it maintains and for the variability of its archaeological record, which, together with its longevity from the 5th century to the early sixteenth century, make it one of the greatest paradigms to study the archaeology of the island of Gran Canaria. Several research projects, promoted by the Government of the Canary Islands, have connected to provide a first knowledge of their primitive history and to advance the knowledge of the archaeological landscape and the evolution of this territory.
This research has led to the work of documentary search, dating and prospecting with surprising results that will be released in this information call.
