7 cm Cultural field: Prehistory of Gran Cana
riaDescription: Torso and right arm of female human figure. Presents as finishing and decorative techniques: printing to signal the navel; incisions to demarcate the fingers of the hand; red paint with which the inside of the navel is filled and the geometric motifs are made (parallel straight lines, broken line, aligned triangles, painted and reserved squares alternated, triangles, diamonds and circles); and burnished that spans the entire surface. Technically, the shoulder is partially hollowed out and highlighted, extending on one side with the breast and the other with the arm. It stands out in this piece its fragility due to the abundance of large degreasers.
Use/function: So-called idols are anthropomorphic, zoomorfa or mixed character figures made mostly in cooked clay. These figurations manifest a preference for human representation, especially female representation. The signaling of sexual attributes leads to linking these figures with the cult of fer
tility. Origin: Los Cascajos, Tara, T. M. de Telde,
Gran Canaria.Context: Village of artificial room caves and st
one houses. Finding: Found two meters deep during the drainage of a fence. F
inding date: 1957
