Part and document of the month 2017

The 2017 PART OF the MONTH program addresses the theme of Death. Through the pre-Hispanic archaeological record and various documentary pieces that The Canary Museum preserves, an approximation is offered to how societies of the past – aboriginal and historical – understood and faced the final moment of life. Despite the universality of such an event, the meanings, rituals, manifestations and symbolism surrounding death differ from one society to another. The conceptualization of death stands as a culturally and socially mediated fact, so to approach it is to approach the certain ways of living of a society.

With this theme it is also sought to link with a part of the research program that The Canary Museum currently addresses, thus becoming the piece of the month in a vehicle to spread not only the wealth of heritage that the entity houses, but the own results achieved from the studies that the institution develops on the indigenous society of Gran Canaria.
