PROJECT "MUMMY. 3D BIOGRAPHIES"

The Canary Museum, in its commitment to the dissemination and socialization of the historical heritage it preserves, has addressed the project "Momias. 3D biographies", a multidisciplinary work, composed of different specialists, aimed at reconstructing the biography of three of the indigenous mummies of Gran Canaria from their bioanthropological study, and to offer a 3D model of each of them through which to show the most outstanding information of the life and death of these people.

With these biographies and their three-dimensional representation, it is in order to generate tools that dynamite and promote knowledge about the society of the ancient canaries.

This project of El Museo Canario, funded by the Hergar Foundation, has as principal researcher the curator of the entity Teresa Delgado, and in which the archaeologists of the company Tibicena participate. Archaeology and Heritage: Ibán Suárez, responsible for modelling, Veronica Alberto and Marco Moreno; as well as the archaeologist and professor of the ULPGC Javier Velasco.

There have been three mummies selected for this analysis, inventoried with numbers 5, 8 and 20, whose 3D is already available in the following links:

A higher resolution 3D model is also accessible, although its display requires high performance equipment:
