calThe governing board of El Museo Canario is the permanent governing body and is composed of eight members: president, secretary and six vowels. These positions are four-yearly and are renewed by halves in elections called every two years.

With this renewal ends the presidency of Víctor Montelongo Parada, who has served in four consecutive legislatures since December 1999. Víctor Montelongo holds a degree in Biological Sciences and a professor of Natural Sciences and Biology. He also worked as a biologist at the Botanical Garden Canario Viera y Clavijo and as head of the Environment Service of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria. He is the author of numerous fundamental publications on botany on our islands, and his continued commitment to cultural dissemination is especially noteworthy.

The new president, Diego López Díaz, holds a law degree and a commercial professor. He has held various public positions in the Councils of Education and Finance of the autonomous administration, and in the 1990s he was manager of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and the Centro Atlántico de Arte Moderno (CAAM).
