These remains are currently stored in the ships of Lomo Gordo, very close to the site of the find. This project is the result of an agreement signed between the Government of the Canary Islands, Cabildo de Gran Canaria and Ayuntamiento de San Bartolomé de Tirajana and contemplates the complete bioanthropological excavation and study of all the blocks that still remain on the site. For its study there is the collaboration of different institutions and professionals who will carry out their research in the ships themselves, due to the poor conditions of conservation of the skeletal remains.
So far 30 blocks have been intervened, obtaining important data among which are those related to the demographic and mortuary patterns of the population occupying the cemetery, the patterns of use and organization of the burial space, and, with a newer character, those linked to the treatments of the corpse before being bur
ied. At the same time, the Cabildo de Gran Canaria has launched a major outreach campaign among secondary schoolchildren through guided tours of the ships, where students observe how archaeological research is carried out and delve into the knowledge of Aboriginal funeral practices. Arqueocana
