On Friday, September 23, at 19:30 hours the "Digital Atlas of Seeds of the Canary Islands" is presented at The Canary Islands Museum, a work of the Agrodiversity Center of La Palma (CAP), an agency dependent on the island's Island Council. It is a catalogue of reference seeds of the Canarian flora free of access on the Internet, which is offered through a website dependent on the CAP.
Reference seed collections are extremely useful for various scientific disciplines such as archaeology, ecology, agronomy, taxonomy, etc. While there are some reference seed collections located in various Canarian institutions, none of them are accessible through a website. This online catalogue offers any user, from anywhere in the world, the possibility to consult the material without having to travel to the centers where it is preserved, allowing new routes of study and work to researchers and professionals from different disciplines as well as students and the general public.
The presentation of the project will be by Basilio Pérez, Director of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the Cabildo Insular de La Palma, Jaime Gil, coordinator of the Atlas Digital de Semillas de las Islas Canarias ADSIC and Facundo Cabrera project, project photographer. It will also feature the participation of the archaeobotanist Jacob Morales Mateos.
